Emma writes: "I first met Alan a couple of years ago in Burger King when I saw him writing what I thought was a letter. I offered him a stamp and he told me that we was actually writing a science fiction novel. I have always remembered that, and every time I see him, I think 'I wonder who knows he writes Sci-Fi?'.
Alan is the gentleman you will see most days playing his penny whistle, recorder and ocarina on the corner by Piccadilly Gardens, and to me is a significant part of Manchester.
My submission is about showing that people are more than the sum of their parts, and that if you take the time to get to know someone you see every day, they can turn into one of the most fascinating people you've ever met."
